IN MEMORY
It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Vimbai Hungwe, President of the Association of Health Information and Libraries in Africa (AHILA). Vimbai met his death through a tragic road accident in South Africa on Sunday 6th June 2010.
Vimbai was the President of AHILA from 2008, a position he held till his death. Vimbai served the Association diligently with commitment and dedication. Vimbai’s visionary leadership was pivotal in the organization of the bi-annual AHILA Congress to be held this year in Burkina Faso and his departure has no doubt left a huge gap. Vimbai worked for ITOCA in South Africa as a Senior Training Office and he trained HINARI users in Africa in collaboration with WHO. All those who came into contact with Vimbai around Africa fondly remember his effective training skills. Vimbai’s death is a great loss to AHILA fraternity and the general World of Health Information. His death has robbed his professional colleagues, friends and family a visionary able leader, energetic, active, vigorous, enthusiastic, and dynamic personality. Vimbai was laid to rest in his home village in Zimbabwe on Saturday 12th June 2010. Though he is gone his memory will live on. May his soul rest in eternal peace. Poem of Life
Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what's to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay... Our destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey's quicker, For some the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends, We'll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord.
