[ Download PPT ] The 2005 World Summit mandated the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to convene an annual substantive Ministerial meeting during the council’s High level Segment with the objective of assessing progress made on the United Nations Development Agenda, including the Millennium Development Goals. The next Review will be held in July 2009 at the United Nations Office at Geneva on the theme: “Implementing the internationally agreed goals and commitments in regard to global public health” The Africa ministerial meeting will make an important contribution towards the 2009 Review. The high-level multi-stakeholder meeting’s theme was “eHealth – use of information and communications technology for health” . According to the meeting announcement – E-Health is one of the most rapidly growing areas in health today. Information and communication technologies (ICT) offer great opportunities to respond adequately to the daunting health-related challenges faced by the African continent. The promotion of e-Health requires approaches that are tailored to the specific needs and circumstances of countries and communities. Countries can learn from the variety of experiences in the region and address the need for external support.
