1.0 INTRODUCTION KEN-AHILA is the local chapter of AHILA and is a registered association in Kenya. The objectives of the association are drawn from the main AHILA objectives and include the following: · Promote closer association among health information professionals in Kenya · Promote research and training in health information and services · Forge close collaboration with other health institutions, organization and individuals with similar objectives and interest (friends of KEN-AHILA) KEN-AHILA has a constitution guiding its activities and a local governing body directing all its activities. In its endeavors to realize some of the objectives, KEN-AHILA has maintained close collaboration with other organizations and institutions like Partnership in Health Information (Phi) of the UK; INASP and other local institutions. Consequently, a number of training initiatives have been realized, particularly during the year 2008. KEN- AHILA, was therefore able to realize its set goals for capacity building for its members.
2.0 MEMBERSHIP Membership to KEN-AHILA is open to the following categories: Institutional membership Individuals interested and providing health information and services Membership is by fee payable by categories as follows: I. Registration for new members Kshs. 500 II. Annual membership fee for individuals Kshs. 2000 III. Annual membership fee for institutions Kshs. 7500 IV. Friends of KEN-AHILA membership fee Kshs. 2000 3.0 ACTIVITIES/BENEFITS Organize workshops and Seminars for members and friends of KEN-AHILA Support members to participate in local and international forums on health information. Disseminate health information material to varied target groups Share health information resources among individual members and their institutions Publish a bi-annual Newsletter for the purposes of sharing news and information and keeping members informed. 4.0 STRATEGIC PLANS KEN-AHILA has drawn up a strategic plan document to guide all its plans and activities. Strategies include planned and running activities: I) Enhance provision of quality, up-to-date and practical health information to the Kenyan Population II) Enhance networking with other institutions organizations and individuals to form a wider group of friends of KEN-AHILA III) Intensify capacity building activities though training and research to improve on standards of health information services in Kenya IV) Look into ways of collaborating in repackaging and dissemination of health related material and information to varied target groups in our population V) Publish a bi-annual Newsletter and encourage members to carry out research and publish.
