Report From the AHILA 9th Conference in MALAWI
Theme of the congress: Meeting Resolutions: 1. AHILA resolves to contribute to the improvement of public health in rural areas through enhancing provision of information in appropriate language, format and medium of delivery, utilizing to the maximum, existing communication structures such as chiefs, teachers, faith based organizations, NGOs and district assemblies; 2. AHILA, appreciating the major contribution of Health practitioners and other Stakeholders in AHILA 9, resolves to strengthen its work through their involvement in its activities at every level; 3. AHILA requests WHO AFRO to continue the close partnership developed over many years through provision of maximum financial and other material support in its activities at national (chapter level) and at regional (Congress level); 4. AHILA reaffirms its commitment to the revival of the Africa Index Medicus through the delivery by AHILA chapters to WHO AFRO of sufficient numbers of well constructed records on a regular (at least quarterly) basis. WHO AFRO to keep updating AHILA members on the >progress and challenges so that timely solutions may be sought; 5. AHILA resolves to develop and offer appropriate training to at least 3 of its member countries in the next two years through collaboration with its international partners; 6. AHILA resolves to work with database developers to ensure maximum coverage of peer reviewed local content; 7. AHILA resolves to be a key player in the “Global Review on Access to Health Information” through consultation with national chapters and other stakeholders as required and when requested on time; 8. AHILA resolves to participate in the continuing education of practicing health personnel through provision of both information resources and training in their use. In order to do this, it will endeavour to use existing databases of medical and nursing council members and will encourage their development where none exist; 9. AHILA resolves to work with MOH and other health delivery agencies to ensure that their Library and Information services are allocated ICT resources and Internet access. This will enable them to fully exploit the existing and developing wealth of e-resources for the benefit of their clients; 10. AHILA resolves to participate in combating HIV and AIDS through involvement of its chapters in Community Based Interventions and Information Education and communication activities; 11. AHILA resolves to market itself through promotional materials and activities in addition to enhancement of international, regional and local networking with Health and information bodies.
